IIT Guwahati M.Tech / M.Des / MS Admission 2016
Applications are invited for admission to the Master of Technology (MTech) and Master of Design (MDes) programmes starting in July 2016. The departments and areas in which these programmes will be offered are:

|Dept. of Civil Engineering||((i) Structural Engineering, (ii) Geotechnical Engineering, (iii) Water Resources Engineering and Management, (iv) Environmental Engineering, (v) Transportation Systems Engineering, (vi) Infrastructure Engineering and Management, and (vii) Earth System Science and Engineering.|
|Dept. of Chemical Engineering||(i) Petroleum Science and Technology, and (ii) Material Science and Technology|
|Dept. of Biosciences and Bioengineering||Biotechnology|
|Dept. of Design (MDes programme)||Design (With focus on Product Design and Development; Ergonomics; Usability Engineering including Human Computer Interaction (HCI); Communication Design).|
Minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks or First Class in the qualifying degree, fulfilling specific requirements for different disciplines, as indicated below:
Note: (a) All regular category candidates (except those having BTech degrees from an IIT with a minimum CPI of 7.0) must possess a valid score of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). For eligibility for financial assistance for regular category candidates, please see the section “Financial Support” below.
(b) Minimum experience required for Sponsored (Full-time) and Part-Time categories of candidates, have also been indicated below.
|Computer Science & Engineering||Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology or equivalent in an appropriate area or MSc (Computer Science/Information Technology) or Graduates (AMIETE) from Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) in Computer Science & Engineering or MCA from a recognized Institution and a valid GATE score in CS.|
|Electronics & Electrical Engineering||Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/ Electronics Engineering or Equivalent or MSc(Electronics) or Graduates (AMIETE) from Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) in Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, and a valid GATE score in EC/EE |
For `Power and Control’ specialization, a valid GATE score in `EE’ or `IN’ is a must.
|Mechanical Engineering||Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology in an appropriate area and a valid GATE score in: |
(a) `ME’ for the specializations of (i) Fluids and Thermal Engineering, and (ii) Machine Design; and
|Civil Engineering||For all specializations (other than Earth System Science and Engineering), Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology in an appropriate area and a valid GATE score in: |
(a)`CE’ for the specializations of (i) Structural Engineering,(ii) Geotechnical Engineering, (iii)Environmental Engineering,(iv) Transportation Systems Engineering;
1.For Earth System Science and Engineering specialization, four-year Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering/Petroleum Engineering/ Mining Engineering/ Mineral Engineering/ Geoscience Engineering/ Engineering Physics (or equivalent)/ Engineering Mathematics (or equivalent) with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks or 1st class OR Master of Science degree in Geology (or equivalent)/ Geophysics (or equivalent)/ Physics with a minimum of 6.5 or 60% of marks or 1st class OR Master of Science degree in Mathematics/ Chemistry and allied areas in natural sciences with a minimum CPI of 7.0 or 65% marks, and a valid GATE score in `CE’ or `GG’ or `PE’ or `MN’ or `PH’ or `CY’ or `MA’.
|Chemical Engineering||Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology in an appropriate area (having Mass Transfer, Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Reaction Engineering, and Process Control, as subjects in undergraduate programme) and a valid GATE score in Chemical Engineering.|
|Biotechnology||Master’s degree in Science or 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, with biology or related subjects as one of the papers at the 10+2 level or later, along with a valid GATE score in related disciplines.|
The Institute reserves the right to call a limited number of candidates for written test/interview/counseling, if required, based on performance in GATE/CEED, grades/marks in the qualifying examination, etc.
