IIT Kharagpur Joint M.Tech/MCP-PhD Programmes 2014
Eligibility
The programme is open to candidates of all categories with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/M.Sc or equivalent professional degrees (AMIE etc.) and having valid GATE score. NET qualified applicants in Economics/Sociology or Geography are eligible for admission to MCP. Criteria for institutes awarding degrees based on aggregate marks secured in all years of the qualifying degree: (i) GE/OBC: Minimum of 60% marks (or a CGPA of 6.5 on a 10 point scale), (ii) SC/ST/PwD: Minimum of 55% marks (or a CGPA of 6.0 on a 10 point scale). For institutes awarding degrees based on aggregate marks secured in the final two semesters or final year of the qualifying degree, the criteria are: (i) GE/OBC: Minimum of 60% marks (or a CGPA of 6.5 on a 10 point scale), (ii) SC/ST/PwD: Minimum of 55% marks (or a CGPA of 6.0 on a 10 point scale). All selected candidates, graduating in 2014 have to produce the marks sheet secured in the final qualifying degree by 31st October, 2014. Seats are reserved for OBC/SC/ST candidates and persons with disability (PwD) as per Government of India rules. B.Tech students graduating from any of the IITs having CGPA 8.0 or above may be admitted to the Post-Graduate programme without GATE score. However, they have to follow the formal process as indicated in the website.
Selection
The admission for some of the programmes will be based on GATE Score ONLY. For some programmes the admission will be based on both GATE Score and an interview. For these programmes, the weightage shall be 70% and 30%, for GATE score and interview, respectively. For these programmes the interview will be held to test the following: (a) Motivation and aptitude for the Programme (b) Suitability for the department/centre (c) Skills in basic science, engineering, and relevant areas. Important Note
For programmes where selection is based on both GATE score and interview, a candidate WILL NOT be considered for admission if he/she fails to appear for the interview.
Assistanship
Students in the two-year M.Tech/MCP programme receive an assistantship of Rs.8000/- per month.

Application Fees
The application fee is Rs. 500.00 for General/OBC and Rs. 250.00 for all Female or SC/ST/PwD candidates. The candidate should first pay the Application Fee by obtaining a Demand Draft drawn in favour of IIT Kharagpur on any nationalized bank payable at Kharagpur, West Bengal or through online mode by using internet banking, Credit/Debit Cards. The draft details are required while filling up the ONLINE application form.
