Hike in Research Fellowship
Dr. Jitendra Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State for Science and Technology (Independent Charge) today announced the much awaited hike in the Fellowship of Research Scholars. The across the board hike in fellowship amount is at least 50% more than the existing levels and it will be effective from 1 October 2014.
As soon as the NDA government assumed office, Department of Science and Technology (DST), under the leadership of Dr. Jitendra Singh initiated series of deliberations & meetings that recommended the increase. Union Finance Ministry, after examining the recommendations of an inter-ministerial meeting for its budgetary implications gave its nod for an enhancement. Each Ministry and other agency can now use these hikes as guidelines to make suitable changes to their specific fellowship programmes. The Minister has also directed the Secretary, Department of Science and Technology to renew inter-ministerial discussions to put in place a mechanism for regular evaluation of fellowship levels and to suggest periodic changes.
In addition, the Minister asked that DST to speedily, coordinate with the Department of Expenditure to put in place web-based fellowship assessment and disbursement mechanisms so that delays in disbursement are avoided.
The enhanced Fellowship levels are given below:
