Things to know before Gate Exam !!

Some Common questions which can be bothering you??

Did I prepare well?
Will I get good marks and get into PSU, IIT, NIT?
What will be the mark that fetches me a Psu call or M.Tech in respective institutes?
What will be the level of paper?
Will I be able to deliver during exam time?
How many question should I attempt in order to get psu or IIT call.
What will happen if I wouldn’t able to get good rank?
What will be my Strategy against negative marking?

Before Gate Exam

It is a truth that although Nearly 1 Lakh Students Appears in GATE Exam for particular paper, hardly 10,000-15,000 candidates prepare seriously.  So finally you are competing with 15000 students so there should be no such thought that “There is no chance of mine as such a huge number of candidates are appearing in gate exam.”

So try to be calm and confident because a student with hard preparation but disturbed mind can make silly mistake and spoil paper but student with a cool mind state but less prepared can qualify exam.

Now we will talk about Question paper, whether the difficulty level is high or low it doesn’t really matter as it will be same for every one writing the paper. So I don’t think this question should bother you.

Now I have seen lots of student have a mind frame that as I have not performed well in my academics how can I perform in gate. So please take my word that “There is no connection between academic performance and qualify gate exam with good marks”. I have seen many times that topper of class do not even qualify in gate while average student are securing good mark in gate exam. 

How many marks do I need to get a PSU Call or IIT, NIT  M.Tech?

It has been seen in past years that most of the high ranker usually takes admission in M.Tech courses and then after getting confirmation by any Psu they leave it wasting a valuable seat.

If you are thinking that top ranker will go to PSu and other average ranked student get chance in IIT, NIT colleges so I must tell you that you are not entirely true.

So for PSU Your rank should be under 3 times the number of vacancy available for you.

What will be my Strategy against negative marking?

Gate has 0.33 negative marking for 1 Marks question and 0.66 for 2 Marks Questions.

Now if you facing problem in exam and you are somewhat near this qualifying figure please try to avoid guessing answers of other question. In 99% case it will not help you to gain marks.

But yes if you think that you are far behind of qualifying figure, guessing can be an only option for you.

Procedure of making a guess: (Only in worst scenario)

1. Read each option carefully.
2. Try to eliminate as many options you can from the questions.
3. Then make a calculated guess ( try to listen to your instinct)

During Exam

First of all in order to remain hectic free and calm a proper sleep is important so take a good nap before exam. Avoid heavy breakfast. Don’t forget to bring Calculator, watch, Identity Card.

Now while giving exam tries to attempt first that category of questions for which you have prepared well.  Some try to prefer starting from 1 mark questions then General aptitude section then after that 2 marks question and in last Linked question as it is more time consuming.

[Most Important] Some time invigilators of examination room who has responsibility of making us comfortable during exam make noises, do gossip with one another which result in distraction of student. If same is happening in your case JUST STAND & ASK THEM TO MAINTANCE SILENCE IN THE CLASS. Don’t let them disturb you as a distributed mind can result in wrong answers.

After Exam

Which College is good? What i will get with this score? When notification will come? when will PSU give a call?
